My grandmother grew tomatoes for years and prepared them in various ways. I also have some of her costume jewelry which, proudly, I wear at certain times of the year. What a lovely post.
What a sweet memory! I love tomato season too! Favorite tomato thing besides blt - tomato chopped, chives or green onion, salt and pepper, mayo all tossed together.
Although I never knew my Italian grandmother, and I often make a long simmered sauce, any Italian grandmother would approve of something fresh from the garden. At this time of year, eat corn and tomatoes every day. That’s my advice.
What a sweet memory of spending time with your fashionable and elegantly dressed grandmother to enjoy BLTs at the Health Bar. It reminded me of my Grandma Rose who was from the same era and always wore smart pantsuits and sparkly pins. She also got her hair done at the "beauty parlor" once a week and would wrap it in a helmet-like cover to sleep every night.

Thanks, Sally. I wear my grandmother's pins occasionally, too. It's always for some dressy event.
I’m with your grandmother; you can’t go wrong with a BLT! Whatever happened to those lil plastic swords anyway?
I just googled them. They are still available and in a wide range of colors!

Sounds good!
I also love her glass beads.

We are with you on the corn and tomato diet!
Your descriptions are as visual as your art, Vicki! They play like film inside my head, summoning those long ago lunchtime outings with your grandma.
I just made a tomato sauce with canned tomatoes, but this sounds better. Obviously a trip to the farmers market is in order. Thanks for a great post!🤗
Thank you, Ruth! I generally use canned, too, but since making it with fresh tomatoes I keep craving the fresh sauce.
You could devote every ETT to tomatoes and I'd be very happy!

My grandmother did the "beauty parlor" too and got a blueish rinse. Thanks for sharing that Amy!
