So inspired by your beautiful poster of flowers and your discussion of bees, their challenges and critical importance. I’m quite a hapless gardener despite living in the land of perpetual sunshine, but thinking of those bees made me want to try planting a few flowers and herbs in pots and in a brick planter in my front yard. The Vidalia onion and honey vinaigrette does sound wonderful. I too am in a rut when comes to dressing—and I do have a good store of honey! Thanks for another excellent post, Vicki!
Thank you, Ruth! I am a pretty hapless gardener myself. I'm not adept at picking plants that compliment one another, but each spring renews hope that I will improve.
Your story and your beautiful tulips me me excited about spring! And, your dressing checks all the boxes for the weird food allergy folks I'm cooking for this weekend, so thanks for that. You asked about gardening plans...I'm thinking about starting mesclun greens from seeds, inside. Thanks for the inspiration to do so!
Coming late to this but so happy now! I'm in the midst of planting a garden in rather unwelcoming soil so there's a lot of lugging dirt and compost around. Almost every thing I eventually plant will be wildflowers and pollinators, most of which have kind of promise me they will flourish. There's a healthy colony of bees being tended around the corner and through the spring and summer the hives' owners set up a table for their rich honey with an honor jar for an cash register. I'm hoping my little contribution will help. And I'm jealous of your collection of The Home Journal which I'm now going to search for. ~You've given me hope!
Good luck with your planting. I had beautiful tiny tomato plants coming up in a pot on my kitchen counter. Every afternoon I have been taking them outside for the afternoon sun. Last night I forgot to bring them in and they are all shriveled. I am sad!

Thank you, Amy. Mesclun sounds like an excellent idea. I'm sure it grows quickly!

“Beautifully hued specimens of bugs…” love it!
Thanks for the dressing recipe; I needed to move off my go-to maple syrup vinaigrette.
I get stuck in a salad dressing rut, too!
Charming! 🌼 🐝
