Why do appliances always choose to malfunction or give up the ghost when you go out of town? It's happened to us too! I do appreciate the words of wisdom about what keeps and doesn't. I've been having a horrible time with cucumbers lately. They get mushy in the fridge. Maybe I'll try leaving them out--or eating them faster. The dressing recipe sounds great. Very tired of the one I keep making with lemon juice and olive oil.
Yes, it does seem to happen that way. And refrigerators are prone to go in the summer when they have to work harder. I have to try the cucumber trick myself. Thank you for commenting, Ruth!
Your new fridge is probably way more energy efficient. I look forward to trying your buttermilk dressing. It is probably very nice on a pasta salad too.
I like the fact that you chose to view your ailing refrigerator as a learning opportunity! I didn’t know that keeping cucumbers out of the refrigerator will prevent them from becoming watery.
Keeping this one for a good gem head

I would never have guessed that about cukes!
